Bayern needed PSG win to progressHad last-gasp winner ruled outOnly domestic glory left for Stanway this seasonWHAT HAPPENED?

Bayern went into their final game against Paris Saint-Germain knowing they had to win or hope the result in the other fixture between Roma and Ajax went in their favour. With the other UWCL groups pretty much sewn up on matchday six, all eyes were on Munich and Amsterdam on Tuesday evening.

Bayern broke the deadlock in the 36th minute through Giulia Gwinn before some defensive hesitancy allowed Tabitha Chawinga to level things up in the second half. However, the parity did not last long, with Sydney Lohmann nodding the German side back in front to spark wild scenes in the stands.

But things soon changed again. First, Ajax went ahead against Roma and then Stanway heartbreakingly put one into her own net two minutes from time, meaning the hosts were again heading out. Bayern thought they'd scored a last-minute winner on the night through Jovana Damnjanovic, but after a lengthy delay the assistant referee eventually raised their flag for offside.

DID YOU KNOW?

Although Stanway and Bayern will be disappointed not to progress to the quarter-finals – where they could have met Chelsea – they are still very much in the Bundesliga title race. They currently trail Wolfsburg by a solitary point after 11 games, having not lost a match all season.

WHAT NEXT FOR STANWAY?

Stanway rarely misses a game for Bayern and will be back in action when her side takes on Freiburg on Monday evening. Her next game for the Lionesses will come in February, though the FA are yet to confirm who England's opponents will be, following their failure to qualify for the inaugural UEFA Women's Nations League finals.
